Nainital Travel

The magnificent hilly region of north India lies in the state of Uttaranchal in the Himalayan Ranges. A picturesque region, Nanital treasures some awesome glaciers, majestic snow-clad mountains, spectacular views of the Himalayas and the ravishing valley of flowers. Besides, Nanital also stocks some of Hinduism's most holy pilgrim sites. Nanital is also commonly called as a lake town nestling in the hilly terrain of Kumaon around the lake Naini. According to mythology, when Lord Shiva was carrying the body of Sati, her eyes fell at this place and it came to be known as Naini Tal, other 2 Tals are BhimTal and SatTal.

The weather and hypnotic charm of the place was so tantalizing to the British's that they turned Nanital into the summer capital of the United Province. Being a dominant tourist hot spot, Nainital is invariably hopping with visitors.

Main Attractions of Nanital City
Hanuman Garhi
Located at a walking distance from nainital the site gives a magnificent view of the sun set. Hanuman temple is located on the hilltop that holds a religious importance for the place.

Raj Bhawan
The foundation stone of Raj Bhawan, a government house designed after Buckingham palace was laid on 27 April 1897. The house is erected upon a plateau and is embellished with the vividly green lawn, grey stone steps and well grown old deodar trees that holds the strong reminisce of the English countryside.

Snow View
The snow viewpoint is at an altitude of 2270 m and it can be reached either by ropeway or by ponies available at the Mallitaal.

Naini Lake
The charming blue green lake is often called as a Nani Taal is situated in the district of Nainital. The city derived its name from this lake, due to its unique eye like shape the lake is called as a Naini Lake.

Naina Peak
It is the highest point in Nainital that gives some panoramic view to its visitors. Visitors can also enjoy a pony ride to reach the peak, tourists are also advised to carry food and water along with them, for there are no hotel or restaurant on top.

Sat Tal (Seven Lakes)
At a distance of 22 km on the way to Bhimtal from Nanital there lies a group of 7 lakes called the Sattal. The place has a government bungalow where one can stay overnight. Taxis and buses are available to Sattal from Nainital.

Other Attractions
Nanda Devi Fair
Nanda Devi Fair is of great religious and cultural importance. The fair is organized at Nanda Devi Temple during the month of September to solemnize the memory of Goddesses, Nanda and Sunanda.

Horse Riding
One can never dare to miss the pleasant horse and pony rides in Nainital. Going around the town on horse back and on ponies is a pleasant experience. You can visit the interiors of nearby area and get a first hand experience of the mountain life of Nainital. The municipal corporation has fixed the rates of horse riding and one should avoid paying more than the prescribed rates.

Excursion from Nanital
Corbett National Park
The park is home to elephant, tiger, leopard, panther, bear, sambhar, cheetal, crocodile, and many other smaller animals. It is a paradise for birdwatchers - more than 150 different varieties of birds have been sighted here.

Ranikhet
Ranikhet also makes an excellent excursion from Nanital. The hill station, Arcadian in its charm, with its majestic pine trees, is situates at a distance of 59.5km from Nainital.

Valley of Flowers
The world famous Valley of Flowers was declared as a National Park in 1982 is situated in Bhyundar Ganga in the far interiors of the Garhwal Himalayas. Almost 300 species of wild flowers bloom here. The valley remains in bloom for three months while its' floral combination keeps changing every few days. Apart from the flowers, some species of butterfly, musk deer, blue sheep, Himalayan bear, hare and snow leopards are also found in this area.

Mode of Transport
Air: Nearest airport is at Pantnagar 71 km that is connected by Vayudoot airlines to Delhi.

Rail: The nearest Railway Station is Kathgodam 35km, connects to Lucknow, Agra, Delhi / Howrah. The major trains that link Nanital to other cities are Kathgodam to Delhi, Kathgodam to Howrah, Kathgodam to Rampur Passenger and Lalkuan to Lucknow.

Road: Nainital is connected to all the major National/State Highways. Buses, Tourist Coaches and Taxis frequently run to and for - some of the important distances are
