Jallianwala Bagh: Located at a distance of just 5 min walk from the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh is an important chapter in the Indian freedom struggle. This is the same place where hundred of innocent Indian were murdered by Gen Dyer.
Wagah Border: Known as the only road border crossing between India and Pakistan, Wagah border is a major attraction that one can visit during their trip to Amritsar. It is located just 29 km from Amritsar city. And do not forget to see the change of guard ceremony that takes place on both sides of the gate amidst much fan fare and jubilation.

Traditions To Follow:
While entering the Gurudwara, the first thing that one should do is remove the shoes and give them to the people managing the shoe rack. They will give you a coupon in return( so that you can take back your shoes while returning).
Do remeber to wash your hand and feet while entering the temple. It is a must for everyone.
Cover your head with a scarf. If you do not have any scarf you can take it just before entering the main chamber. It is manadatory for everyone to follow this rule.
While coming back do take the Kada prasad.
Everyday from 11 am to 7 pm.
History Of Golden Temple Amritsar
At different occasion in its long history, Afghan and other invaders tried to destroy this pious building. And every time they invaded this place, they had to face stiff competition from the Sikhs.
Architecture Of The Golden Temple
Guru Arjan Sahib got its foundation laid by a muslim saint Hazrat Mian Mir ji. The construction work was directly supervised by Guru Arjan Sahib himself. Originally built during 1574 A.D, the site of the Golden temple is surrounded by a large sarovar (the tank) which was enlarged by Guru Ram Das, the fourth Nanak. This Sarovar is known as AmritSar(Lake of holy water or Immortal Nectar). The entire construction work of Golden temple was completed by September 1604 A.D. It is built on a lower level, on a 67ft sq platform. A 13 feet wide 'Pardakshna' (circumlocutory path) is joined with the bridge. Golden Temple has four gates on each side representing a symbol of new faith, Sikhism.
How To Reach Golden Temple
By Air: The Amritsar airport is very well connected with all the major cities of India like Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow. If you are traveling from a foreign country, take a flight to these cities and from there board another flight for Amritsar.
By Rail: Amritsar is directly connected to Amritsar via rail route. It takes about 8 to 10 hours to reach Amritsar by train.
By Road: GT Karnal Road connects Delhi to Amritsar. Regular buses are available from I.S.B.T. Delhi to Amritsar.
