Thar Desert or Great Indian Desert extends over an area of 800 km in length and 400 km in width. The desert lies in the North Western part of India and Eastern Pakistan between the Indus and Sutlej River valleys on the west and the Aravalli Range on the east. It is an extensively a barren region of diversifying sand dunes, rocks, and mediocre vegetation with an annual average rainfall of less than 25 cm. The meagerly populated region has an agrarian economy. Due to the expansion of waterway fed with Sutlej and Beas rivers, irrigation has derived some portion of the desert land for vegetation purposes along the northern and western fronts. In May 1974, India exploded its first nuclear device in the desert of Rajasthan State. Thar Desert is also enriched with numerous reptile species; it supports 23 species of lizards and 25 species of snakes, all these animals are well adapted to the desert environment.

Camel Safaris in Thar Desert

Besides camel safari, a camel cart accompanies on the tour to handle baggage and allow riders to take rest as and when required.
